When saving a Payer File or Collection File in CSV format it is vital that it is saved as CSV MS-DOS format. This is vital as the comma separated fields allows SmartDebit to differentiate between each field of information which in turn, allows us to create a Direct Debit or add a Collection.
Using Excel:
When saving your file go to “Save As” and you should see a window like this:
Make sure the “Format” has “Windows Comma Separated Values (.csv)” selected and then click Save.
You should now be able to upload this file into SmartDebit.
Using TextWrangler:
TextWrangler is text editing software that allows you to pick from many file formats to save in. When using this software you will already need to have the file created in Excel and saved.
To install TextWrangler please click on the link below and then download the latest version:

- Once downloaded open the DMG and copy TextWrangler to the Applications folder.
- Once the installation is complete, go the applications folder and run TextWrangler.
- Once TextWrangler is open go to “File” and “Open”. Go to your saved file and open it.
- Once open click on “File” and “Save As” and you should see a window like this:
Please make sure that “Line breaks” is set to “Windows (CRLF)” and “Encoding” is set to “Unicode (UTF-8)”. This ensures that everything is set up correctly. Once you have clicked Save you now should be able to upload the File to SmartDebit.
