There are 2 Bacs reports that you may receive when processing Direct Credits:
ARUCS - Automated Return of Unapplied Credit Service Report
If the correct amount cannot be identified, or the payment cannot be applied for any reason, the funds will be returned by the Receiving Bank no later than Day 5 of the Bacs Processing Cycle. The ARUCS report will advise that the payment has been returned and will provide the reason why. Please download the SmartDebit Direct Credit Reasons booklet to help you understand the different reason codes on the report.
AWACS - Advice of Wrong Account for Credits Service Report
If the Beneficiary's sort code and/or account number are incorrect, the Receiving Bank will notify the Service User and provide advice of the correct details for future payments via the AWACS report.
Please download the SmartDebit Direct Credit Reasons booklet to help you understand the different reason codes on the report.
It is a Bacs rule that you must action AWACS and ARUCS reports within 3 working days of the date of the report being available. It is strongly recommended that the changes are applied immediately to avoid the risk of misdirected payments.
